Can confirm it works perfectly and autofocuses at f/8 on the EF IS non-L 70-300mm. I don't think its a great teleconverter, if you have the compatible L lenses, you can use the Canon ones - which are higher quality glass. Canon recently introduced two new extenders, the EF 1.4x III extender, and the EF 2x III extender. These new extenders were redesigned, and optimized to work very well with the new range of Canon telephoto lenses. I did use the new 2x III extender on the new 300, and found that it did work well.

In reply to birdbrain โข Mar 8, 2021. For zooms like the 100-500, no. I have owned every version of the EF 100-400 & 70-200 f2.8 and I was near happy with the results of the 2x extenders. The 2x extender can add value on the EF Big Whites, you will loose some IQ but the results are acceptable (and at f8 in most cases).
